Drawstring Scarf Tutorial: Inspired by Berroco’s Toshiko

This Drawstring Scarf Tutorial looks complicated, but it’s actually really easy even for the beginning knitter.

Drawstring ScarfWhat gives the scarf a patter in as repeating set of 12 purl, 12 knit, 12 purl  with a knitted opposite and then reversing the pattern.

Instructions:
Pattern Stitch (Worked over 36 sts)

Rows 1, 3 and 5 (RS): P12, k12, p12.

Rows 2, 4 and 6: Knit.

Rows 7, 9 and 11 (RS): Knit.

Rows 8, 10 and 12: P12, k12, p12.

Rep these 12 rows for Pat St.

This is a convertible scarf that can be worn long or as an ‘accordion’- style like royalty used to wear (think of a viceroy).

We used yute (burlap string)- type cord to weave between the length of the scarf, but we think many types of sturdy strings and even leather strings would look really nice.
